I often talk about not killing bugs because I don’t think of myself as a killer. These fleas are dead. I killed them. They are ruthless filthy parasites who were suckling on my poor dog’s precious precious blood.
It’s fall again and the fleas are looking for a warm place and a free meal. Fleas are wingless insects with special mouth parts designed for piercing the skin and sucking the blood of their hosts. Their bodies are thin, covered in small rearward facing hairs, and damn near impossible to squish. The poor souls above fell victim to a bowl of water (fleas can’t swim). They also very very very stellar jumpers. They are so fast that I swear sometimes it looks like they just vanish, though I am starting to suspect that they may have beat the human species in the race for teleportation. I’m still doing some investigating on this matter.
If you think of fleas as just an itchy little pest for you favorite pets, then think again. They’ll go after just about any mammal (except maybe dolphins and whales), and that includes YOU! They will bite you which causes a varying degree of results depending on the individual. They also act as tiny little transporters for a range of diseases.
They have no love here. 🙂
