I’m not even going to pretend to know what particular species of mosquito this is since there is a known 3500 of them world-wide. As annoying and dirty (West Nile Virus….RUN!!!) as these guys are, they do have some interesting characteristics.
Their four stage life cycle is 3/4 aquatic. They can grow from egg to adult in somewhere around 10 days (give or take a few). After the eggs are layed – usually in stagnant water somewhere, they can hatch within 2-3 days. After hatching, the larva form dances around in the water spasmodically feeding on algea and bacteria until they turn into the pupa, crawl out of the water, molt, and then do what they do best… steal your blood when your not looking.
